Textiel zit in mijn DNA Door de eeuwen heen heeft textiel altijd een universele stem gehad. Het vertelde verhalen en verbond culturen. In de vorige eeuw gingen feministische kunstenaars textiel bewust inzetten als activistische kunstvorm. “Vrouwelijke” technieken werden gebruikt om thema’s als genderongelijkheid zichtbaar te maken. In 2017 ontstond tijdens de Amerikaanse Women’s March het roze “Pussyhats Project”. Het was een oproep tot solidariteit en de roze mutsen werden wereldwijd een visueel symbool van protest tegen seksisme. De hedendaagse textiele werken vertellen ook verhalen. Het is kunst die eer betoont aan oude, soms vergeten ambachten en deze technieken worden gecombineerd met moderne conceptuele ideeën. Textiel heeft een belangrijke rol gespeeld in de geschiedenis van mijn voormoeders door middel van mode, borduurwerk, naaiwerk en het breien van visnetten. TEXTIEL ZIT IN MIJN DNA zijn groeiende textielinstallatiewandstukken met borduurwerk, (papieren) origami, haakwerk, geweven stukken en gebruikte knopen, kralen & plastic doppen. Mijn textiele werken hebben vaak een activistisch motief maar zijn bovendien duurzaam, want ook de (synthetische) wol komt voornamelijk uit afgedankte partijen.  Naast mijn textielinstallaties maak ik ook schilderijen, waarin niet alleen acrylverf maar ook lapjes en draden worden verwerkt. Het is een vorm van kunst geschikt voor beginners en gevorderden, voor jong en oud, waarin geborduurd, gehaakt, geknipt en geplakt kan worden op grote of kleine canvasframes.

In de tentoonstelling Kunst, Natuur & 3 Vrouwen galerie Nivonhuis Rotterdam, maakt de bezoeker kennis met de kunstwerken van 3 Randstad beeldend kunstenaressen, die op zeer verschillende manieren met textiel werken. Alle drie geven zij op hun eigen manier vorm aan het thema duurzaamheid & de natuur. In de maanden juli en augustus zullen er in de weekenden activiteiten georganiseerd worden en de ontwerpsters aanwezig zijn. Hierbij denken we aan workshops, lezingen, films, performancesen, Brainbooks uitgeverij met boeken van schrijfsters. Textile origami artwork ´The Fetus´ deals with the digitalization of modern life and the ethical dilemmas they raise. Despite all the questions, technology, such as the ultrasound of the unborn child, is slowly but surely conquering our planet. The butterfly-like creature in the artwork represents the technological progress of the 21st century, but also the elusive Textile art, like technology, has undergone an enormous development. Its universal voice still tells stories, connects cultures and expresses creativity and it can still be a powerful instrument for social change. Contemporary textile art combines age-old and sometimes forgotten craft techniques with modern conceptual ideas. The intricate Japanese folding technique used here has become popular among modern scientists of all stripes because of the age-old mathematical principles that underlie it.
